There is power in prayer according to James 5:16-18 The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with.
Example of powerful praying: Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.
We are told to devote ourselves to prayer. Colossians 4:2
Husbands and wives are to devote themselves to prayer. 1 Corinthians 7:5
His house will be called a House of Prayer for all nations... Mark 11: 17
We pray because Prayerlessness is a sin.
We pray because prayer helps us to discern God's will.
We pray because Jesus left us an example to seek the face of God the Father. If it was important for Jesus to spend all night in prayer and to get up early in the morning for prayer...we must surely follow his example and pray.
Jesus constantly set the tone of his day by prayer.
The disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray.
